Owen Teale 'dream come true' Line of Duty return

Welsh actor Owen Teale has said it is "a dream come true" as he returns to the cast of BBC's police drama Line of Duty. Teale, from North Cornelly, has appeared in Robin Hood, Doctor Who, The Thin Blue Line, Stella, and most recently BBC's comedy crime drama Death Valley. He is known for roles as Ser Alliser Thorne in Game of Thrones and Chief Constable Osborne in Line of Duty.

Production underway for series seven

The police drama, starring Martin Compston, Vicky McClure, and Adrian Dunbar, has started production for its seventh series and is due to be released in 2027. The new series will see the return of Teale's character, who was one of the original police officers in the first season before returning for season six.

Series seven will also see the addition of Scottish actor Robert Carlyle as the guest lead, along with newcomers Laura Aikman, Levi Brown, and Amy Leigh Hickman.

Teale reflects on original role

Speaking to Radio Wales Breakfast presenter James Williams ahead of the new season's release, Teale was asked what it was like to "get the gang back together for filming."

The actor replied: "That's a dream come true for me because I started that – what is it, 15 years ago – and I was probably one of the sort of original bent coppers in it you might say. If you go back to that first [series] he is the one trying to make them give false evidence in order to protect their livelihoods."

Teale praises show's writer

While he refused to divulge any plotlines, Teale said he thought season seven of Line of Duty was the best yet. He praised the show's writer, saying: "I think it is because it's so powerful and Jed Mercurio is so able – he's bordering on genius, isn't he, in a wonderful way?"
