The identities of the mysterious double act known as The Croissants on The Masked Singer were finally revealed during Wednesday night's episode, solving a cliffhanger left from the season 14 premiere.
A Fear Factor Crossover
The second instalment of the new series featured a promotional twist with Fox's revived show, Fear Factor: House of Fear. The new host of that programme, Johnny Knoxville, made a guest appearance to unsettle the judging panel of Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, and Rita Ora.
Following each performance, Knoxville presented boxes containing unsettling surprises like snakes, a tarantula, and rats, which also served as vessels for contestant clues.
The Croissants' Performance and Clues
After the premiere episode saw the elimination of baseball legend David Ortiz, the show moved to unmask the duo eliminated at the end of that first broadcast. The Croissants, dressed in stereotypical French attire complete with berets, confused judges with strong American Southern accents.
Their performance of Jailhouse Rock hinted at a possible connection to incarceration, while a kiss confirmed their ongoing romantic link. They described themselves as reality stars who had been 'cancelled' and separated by fate.
The Shocking Reveal and Presidential Pardon
When their pastry heads were removed, they were unveiled as Todd and Julie Chrisley, the stars of the US reality series Chrisley Knows Best. The couple are also convicted fraudsters, having been found guilty of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, wire fraud, and tax evasion.
Both had been sentenced to prison time. However, they, along with their daughter Savannah, waged a public campaign seeking clemency from then-President Donald Trump. Their efforts succeeded, receiving a full presidential pardon that wiped their felony convictions.
Upon unmasking, the couple shared another kiss on stage. Judge Jenny McCarthy was the sole panel member to guess correctly. Other guesses ranged wildly from Robin Thicke's suggestion of Jersey Shore's Snooki and The Situation, to Ken Jeong's guess of Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, and Rita Ora's theory of Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag.
