Love Island: All Stars Set for Dramatic 2027 Comeback Amidst Controversy
ITV's reality television spin-off Love Island: All Stars is reportedly scheduled to make a sensational return in 2027, despite facing significant backlash during its latest series. The show, which generated more than 11,000 official complaints to Ofcom, has been embroiled in controversy over its intense on-screen conflicts and rapid post-show breakups.
Record Complaints and On-Screen Tensions
The most recent series of Love Island: All Stars was plagued by bitter arguments and explosive rows, leaving viewers deeply divided over the level of drama. In January, a particularly heated confrontation between Islanders Belle Hassan and Lucinda Strafford resulted in over 11,000 complaints to the broadcasting regulator Ofcom, with many viewers alleging instances of bullying behaviour. This controversy cast a shadow over the programme's otherwise impressive streaming figures, which saw the series being viewed more than 80 million times, attracting the largest 16-34 audience of any commercial channel programme.
Winners' Shockingly Quick Split
Adding to the turmoil, the winning couple from the latest series, Samie Elishi and Ciaran Davies, shocked fans by ending their romance just 15 days after leaving the villa. This breakup represents one of the fastest dissolutions of a winning couple in the entire history of the Love Island franchise. The pair had won the All Stars series in February, securing the £50,000 prize money, but their relationship lasted only three weeks post-victory. ITV executives expressed concern about this development, noting that quick breakups among couples, particularly winners, can damage the show's brand identity.
Host Contract Negotiations and Future Plans
Meanwhile, presenter Maya Jama, 31, has not yet officially signed on to host the 2027 All Stars edition, with contract negotiations expected to continue until autumn. However, she will maintain her role as host for the main Love Island series on ITV2 this summer as per usual arrangements. The delay in finalising her contract adds another layer of uncertainty to the production plans for the upcoming All Stars season.
New Romance Developments
In a surprising twist, Samie Elishi has since moved on to a new relationship with fellow Islander Tyrique Hyde. The 26-year-old influencer, who first appeared on the ninth season of Love Island in 2023, has been growing closer to Tyrique, also 26, from season ten. The new couple recently shared loved-up snaps from their first holiday together in Agadir, Morocco, where they enjoyed jet ski rides and sun-soaked relaxation. Tyrique had previously expressed admiration for Samie in online clips, describing her as "very good looking" and "so cool" at various events before their romance blossomed.
Production Concerns and Brand Impact
ITV bosses have privately voiced concerns that the combination of excessive on-screen conflict and rapid post-show breakups risks transforming Love Island: All Stars into what one insider described as "Big Brother in bikinis." The network fears that maintaining this direction could dilute the show's unique appeal and create unnecessary competition with similar reality formats. Despite these challenges, the programme's strong streaming performance and demographic appeal have convinced producers to proceed with the 2027 revival, betting that adjustments can address viewer concerns while preserving the dramatic elements that attract audiences.
