Liam Gallagher reveals why he rejected Celebrity Traitors

Liam Gallagher has revealed he was asked to take part in Celebrity Traitors but turned down offers from production bosses two years in a row. The 54-year-old Oasis frontman, who lives in North London, said he will not be wearing the iconic green Traitors cape.

Fan pleas and the singer's response

Fans have been vocal on social media about wanting to see Liam play the game in the Scottish Highlands. One fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: "They should put Liam on Celebrity Traitors."

Responding to his 3.8 million followers, Liam revealed: "I've been asked it's not my thing I'm not a celebrity." Fans disagreed with his reasoning, with one responding: "Can you imagine…? I mean there's biblical and then there's biblical." A second asked: "So if it was called Rock n Roll star Godlike Genius Traitors, you'd be up for it?"

BBC's response and show details

The Mirror asked the BBC if Liam was approached for The Celebrity Traitors, to which they replied: "Definitely, Maybe," a nod to the 1994 Oasis album of the same name. One fan noted that Liam previously appeared on a special edition of Celebrity Gogglebox for Stand Up 2 Cancer.

The show, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, sees contestants try to detect the traitors in the group while completing challenges to win funds for the prize pot. If at least one traitor is left among the finalists when they collectively decide to end the game, the faithfuls lose out on the money and the traitors win the full prize.

Current season viewership and cast

The second season of the celebrity version launched on Thursday, with the premiere becoming the most-watched debut episode of any series of the programme in the UK, averaging 8.9 million viewers. The current season features stars including musician and actor Sebastian Croft, comedian Joanne McNally, TV presenter Maya Jama, actors Michael Sheen and Richard E. Grant, singer James Blunt and comedians Romesh Ranganathan and Rob Beckett.

In the second episode, journalist Amol Rajan was murdered by traitors Maya and Richard, while comedian James Acaster was recruited to become the third traitor. The episode ended on a cliffhanger when Grant came under the spotlight during the first roundtable after he had previously slipped up and admitted he was a traitor; viewers were left unsure who had been banished from the castle.

The Celebrity Traitors continues on Thursday at 8pm on BBC One.
