James Blunt has revealed he received star-studded training for The Celebrity Traitors after being invited to play Werewolf by Hollywood A-listers Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore. The singer and songwriter said he had already played a similar game to The Traitors during his time in Los Angeles, although his night ended in mysterious circumstances.
Thrown Out in Hollywood
Blunt, 52, said: "I played a similar game in Los Angeles called Werewolf, with werewolves and villagers. I was invited around by Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore to go and play. I got thrown out, but nothing to do with the game, and it's a whole different story!"
While Blunt might have been ousted from Hollywood's version of the game, he believes his military background could give him an advantage in the real thing. The You're Beautiful hitmaker served six years in the British Army, rising to the rank of captain and training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst before serving with NATO forces in Kosovo.
Military Skills and Traitor Vibes
Blunt joked that his fellow contestants might be expecting too much from him when it comes to the physical Missions. Asked whether his Army background would make him an asset, he said: "I can scurry around in ditches. I'm excellent at hiding in bushes."
He may therefore have the perfect skill for a game built around deception, although Blunt admits his biggest weakness could be that he gives off suspicious vibes even when he is doing nothing wrong. He said: "My biggest weakness definitely will be that I emit Traitor vibes just in everyday life."
No Fixed Strategy
Blunt is hoping to play as a Faithful, saying he wants to be a "goody" rather than take on the role of a Traitor. He insists he had no grand strategy going into the castle, saying: "It's non-existent. It's so hard to think about because it just really depends on who's who."
"I suppose the only thing to be is inquisitive in the sense of getting to know people. I always think it's a little bit foolhardy going into this with a fixed strategy because it really is all about the other players and reacting to behaviour and observations," he added.
Despite his military background, Blunt appears to be treating the whole thing as something of a holiday. "I was promised a holiday in Scotland!" he joked. "I'm just here for a lovely walking holiday in The Highlands." The Celebrity Traitors starts on Thursday 1st October at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
