James Acaster's Traitor Game: Friend Predicts Downfall

Comedian James Acaster's close friend and fellow comedian Brennan Reece has revealed why he believes Acaster's time as a Traitor on the BBC show will end in downfall. Reece suggests that Acaster's reluctance to lie will ultimately expose him, predicting he will not make it to the final four.

Smart Gameplay or Bumbling Fool?

Speaking to OLBG, Reece believes Acaster has managed the game exceptionally well, particularly in avoiding any suggestion that he is a Traitor. By seeming flustered and easily annoyed by “the little things in the world,” Acaster has created a “bumbling fool” persona that leads others to underestimate him. Reece said: “He’s actually a really, really smart individual,” showing that Acaster is playing his role as the Traitor well without attracting suspicion.

Reece added: “I don't think anyone would be a traitor on the show.” Contestants like Acaster would dislike the role, since it offers an active way to play “instead of just sitting around and waiting to be murdered.” Reece reckons Acaster will embrace his role and “enjoy the power” that comes with it.

Honesty as a Weakness

Reece believes Acaster's possible downfall is him trying to “be too much like a faithful.” By actively trying to catch out others like fellow contestant Julie, Acaster risks drawing attention from other players, making them suspicious. Reece said: “and everyone starts to look,” noting that overly eager behaviour could expose Acaster as the Traitor.

Reece added: “James is not really getting involved in any of the conspiracies…but it feels like he's sitting back at the moment.” This could be a strategy for Acaster to avoid suspicion: “He's being almost like a passenger in the game.”

Nation's New Heartthrob

Reece does not believe Acaster would turn on another Traitor, pointing out that “James said he doesn’t like lying, and I think he’s being honest about it.” Reece believes this honesty will be a weakness, leading Acaster to give away his role. Reece also suggested that fellow contestant Maya would be more open to “throw him under the bus,” as she has a “twinkle in her eye. It didn't feel like she was upset about Richard E Grant.”

Since appearing on the show, Acaster has become the nation's new heartthrob, with social media edits circulating. Reece said: “He’s a sneakily handsome man…There’s something about James Acaster where he's very kind, but he’s also turning into a silver fox, which never hurts.”
