ITV game show The Box comes to an end tonight, with the winner set to be revealed in the final episode. The reality show, hosted by Gary Lineker, began last month with 10 celebrity contestants sealed inside individual yellow shipping containers and dropped into mystery locations across the country.
While kept in total isolation, the celebrities were unaware of their surroundings. The boxes were then moved to various environments ranging from indoor venues to outdoor fields near ruins, where the players took on physical and mental challenges with minimal instructions.
Three finalists compete for the trophy
Each episode saw a contestant leave the competition. The three remaining stars – JLS singer and The One Show presenter JB Gill, Good Morning Britain star Ranvir Singh and TOWIE legend Joey Essex – will all go head-to-head in the final on Sunday, October 11.
The synopsis for the final reads: "Three finalists. One trophy. The final of The Box is here and the stage couldn't be bigger. Against a backdrop of iconic landmarks, the remaining celebrities face three high-stakes challenges."
"With no margin for error, they must put everything they've learned to the test as they battle to outsmart The Box and stay in contention. As some familiar faces return, it all comes down to one last unforgiving duel. Nerves are shattered, limits are pushed and in a heart-stopping climax, a champion of The Box is finally crowned."
Shakira Khan's message after missing the final
Love Island star Shakira Khan narrowly missed out on a place in the final and took to social media to share a message about her time on the show. Alongside a series of behind-the-scenes pictures and clips, she wrote: "And just like that… my time in The Box comes to an end. Would say I behaved myself but we all know that would be a lie x."
She added: "We filmed this so long ago i almost forgot what we did It’s been a joy to relive it all on the telly. It was chaotic, competitive and just sooo silly!! I never thought i’d say it but I miss my box. Cast and Crew i bloody love the lot of you, you’re AMAZING!! I’m so happy i got to be a part of this wonderful mad thing. Come on final 3!!! @ranvirtv @jbgill @joeyessex."
Joey responded to Shakira's post, commenting: "you was amazing" and JB also added: "The best teammate. Absolutely smashed it."
Celebrity Catchphrase takes over the slot
The Box will be replaced in the television schedule by a repeated episode of game show Celebrity Catchphrase, which airs at 7pm next Sunday, October 18. The synopsis for the programme reads: "Joe Swash, Joanna Page, and Angellica Bell join Stephen Mulhern as they try to 'say what they see' and guess well-known phrases for their chance to win 50,000 pounds for charity."
The Box Final airs Sunday, October 11 at 7pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
