Holly Willoughby has revealed she once ate raw chicken live on This Morning and feared she might have a toilet accident on air. The 45-year-old former presenter discussed the incident on the latest episode of her YouTube channel, Holly Willoughby Together, while demonstrating her mother's chicken Caesar salad recipe.
Raw chicken moment on live TV
During the segment, Holly was asked whether she had ever sampled "questionable chicken" during a live broadcast. "It definitely happened," she confirmed to a crew member, who remained off-camera. "Very, very, rarely did that happen, but I remember there was one time and we were up against the clock and I actually genuinely can't remember who it was, but somebody was cooking chicken and as they served it on the plate and they flipped it over, I saw that it's raw," she recounted.
At the time, Holly admitted she was uncertain how to respond when the chef encouraged her to sample the dish. "I was just like, Oh god what do I do? And I just ate it, I thought I just have to, there's nothing you can do," she went on.
Fear of on-air accident
Holly said she was relieved the segment was the last item of the show. "Thankfully it was the last item of the show because I just thought, if this is the beginning of the show, am I going to s**t myself live on tele? [It was] a bit touch and go but, thankfully, it was the last item, but yeah I just kind of had to [eat it]." Fortunately, Holly stated she didn't fall ill following the raw chicken consumption, nor from any other dishes she sampled throughout the programme.
Remaining on the topic of culinary mishaps, the mother-of-three also confessed she once caused her children to suffer food poisoning. "I've given my kids food poisoning from uncooked stuff, yeah," she revealed. "Do you know what it was? It was when air fryers first came out and they were like, 'Oh, you can cook a chicken in like 10 minutes' and you can't. So, I definitely did to begin with, so I'm always quite wary of that."
Previous blunder on Ministry of Mayhem
During a previous instalment of her programme, the presenter discussed another embarrassing incident that left her feeling "mortified" - this time involving a wardrobe malfunction. She detailed how while presenting an episode of ITV's Ministry of Mayhem in 2004, her top became unfastened as she danced during a segment featuring boyband Blue, resulting in her "left boob swinging".
Following an advert break, she enquired whether producers had spotted the wardrobe disaster. She remembered them responding: "'We're not going to lie to you. We did see it'." And then The Sun put me on Page 3 the next day. So I've been a Page 3 girl with my boob out," she added.
