Sian and Andy, a couple featured on the latest episode of BBC's Escape to the Country, decided to move from Leicestershire to Herefordshire after Sian was diagnosed with breast cancer. They sold their home in Leicestershire and, with presenter Jules Hudson's help, searched for a new property near the Welsh border.
Health challenges spark decision
The couple, who have three children, said they had always planned to move, but after the diagnosis they thought, "Why not now?" Sian explained, "Life's too short." Their children were excited about the move, with Sian noting, "They're all very excited. My oldest, Scarlett, so she's at uni, she can't wait to come, she loves walking. Middle daughter's about to start college, and then Jamie, the youngest, she just can't wait to have horses and chickens."
Search for a dream home
Jules described the move as "massive" and asked if they were looking for a "forever home." Sian replied, "Yes, definitely," and Andy added, "Not just forever home, but dream home." Their budget was £1.25 million, and they required land and stables for two horses, plus space for a donkey they planned to name Derek. They also wanted enough bedrooms for their children and an open-plan living space.
The couple were particularly drawn to the first property they viewed, a large family home in Little Dewchurch with 16 acres, offering views over the Wye Valley and large bedroom windows facing fields and trees.
Offer accepted
By the end of the programme, it was confirmed that their offer on the house, listed for offers over a million, had been accepted. Jules said, "I'm thrilled to say Sian and Andy had their bid on our first house accepted. And we hope that they are settled in soon with the horses and of course, Derek the donkey."
Escape to the Country airs on BBC One.
