Emmerdale's DS Thea Ramsden will move into an existing residence in the village this winter, but it won't be with Kim Tate, actress Chelsea Edge has revealed. The revenge-fuelled detective's secret, that she is Kim's long-lost daughter, is set to come to light, with a showdown expected around Halloween.
Thea's New Residence
Chelsea Edge, who plays Thea, confirmed that after an issue with her boiler, Thea will move into Emmerdale Farm with the Sugdens. Her close friend Serena Sugden will invite her to stay while the problems continue.
Chelsea hinted it paves the way for "a busy household" and scenes for Thea with Robert Sugden and Aaron Dingle. She explained: "It's going to be incredibly crowded, let's just say that."
Boiler Breakdown and Friendship
"Thea's boiler has broken down, and obviously it's mid-winter, so it's very, very cold. And Serena says, 'Why don't you just stay here for a little bit, you know, we'll put you up for as long as it takes for your boiler to get fixed,'" Chelsea said.
"They're like sisters, so they're incredibly close. I imagine that they've probably been housemates at some point in the past. So it's an easy fix. And you would, wouldn't you, if your best friend's boiler had broken, you're not going to leave them in a freezing cold house."
Family Dynamics and Kim Showdown
"But obviously then you have the dynamics of Rob and Aaron, it's a busy household for sure," she added. Amid the Kim showdown, Chelsea teased whether there could be a family dynamic for the mother and daughter.
She said: "Deep down, I think she's desperate for a family, because she's never had that really. It's something that she's really, really longed for and I think no matter who you are, everyone has that sort of desire to be included in a family unit."
"I think she would like a relationship with her, but she's also clouded by a lot of ideas that she already has for her. She is only human, but I guess that elevation from sort of hating her to then being like, 'Oh, she is human and she's not that bad,' you see that sort of softening and the thawing of both of them together. I think she's in a bit of a tricky situation."
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
