Emmerdale's Dawn Taylor dies as Joe Tate's fate hangs in balance

Emmerdale's Dawn Taylor has died after suffering a cardiac arrest in hospital, following the devastating marquee collapse that also claimed the life of Jimmy King.

The ITV soap aired the dramatic death earlier this week when Jimmy King (Nick Miles) died in a car crash, comforted by his wife Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) as he passed. Elsewhere, Dawn Taylor - played by Olivia Bromley - and Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) were trapped in the same tragedy and rushed to hospital after the marquee came down.

Dawn and Joe's hospital ordeal

Dawn and Joe were rushed to hospital and things seemed to be looking up, as the pair decided to find a time to go through with their marriage once more when they were both recovered, with Joe suggesting a beach wedding. As they talked about names for their baby, who was doing well despite being premature, Joe decided he'd go out and get some more water for his bride to be, only for his gown to be showing a spot of blood, which was also present on the bed.

In a sad turn of events, Joe hobbled out of the room before collapsing, leaving Dawn to rest. He passed out on the floor, with the blood still evident on his gown and eventually managed to wake himself up. When he came back around, a nurse walked by and checked in on him, getting the water for him. He headed back to see Dawn and it was then he noticed that she was not waking up.

Emergency and aftermath

Panicking, he slammed his hand on the red emergency alarm and doctors and medics rushed into the room. Moving Joe out the way, they desperately tried to work on her but to no avail. It was later revealed that Dawn suffered from a huge bleed and sadly died from a cardiac arrest as a result, leaving Joe devastated as he struggled to contemplate a future without his wife in it.

Whilst we assume the blood on his gown is actually from Dawn, could Joe be suffering from complications from the accident too, or with his wife dead, will he decide to flee the Dales?

Olivia Bromley's earlier comments

Olivia had previously spoken about the dramatic scenes, but wouldn't confirm if it would lead to her character's exit. She said: "It’s gonna be a crazy week for her! It’s not going to be a smooth-sailing wedding, it never is. Her first wedding was a disaster, she was kidnapped and hung over a viaduct – and this wedding is potentially even worse!"

She added: "I think it’s been a really exciting year for Emmerdale. We’ve got some very exciting stuff coming up towards the end of this year. It’s just the best soap. I’m biased, but there we go!"
