Emmerdale's Tate wedding is set to be anything but happily ever after, with Ned Porteous and Olivia Bromley teasing a dramatic twist that could change lives in the village for years to come.
Dawn's Secret Plan
Dawn Taylor may be planning her dream future with Joe Tate, but behind the scenes she is secretly plotting to run away with Billy Fletcher, leaving the couple's huge Tate wedding hanging in the balance.
At a recent Emmerdale press event, Ned Porteous and Olivia Bromley spoke with the Manchester Evening News as they promise that the big day is definitely not one to be missed - and viewers most certainly won't expect the ending.
Joe's Comeuppance
Ned Porteous, who plays Joe, admits viewers may finally be about to see the scheming businessman get his comeuppance, but warns that Joe is never easy to bring down. He explained: 'He's a slippery fish... even death he's managed to cheat once or twice'
Despite Joe's ruthless reputation, Ned believes his love for Dawn and his family is what keeps him grounded. If that is taken away, however, he warns that the consequences could be devastating.
“If you were to take that from him, or if it went away in any way, he's capable of great danger and I think everyone could be affected,” the actor added.
A Blindsided Joe
The actor also suggests that Joe will be particularly blindsided by Dawn's betrayal. After previously showing an almost grudging admiration for her ability to deceive people, Joe genuinely believes this time that he has finally found the happy ending he has always wanted.
Ned shared: “He wants to believe that this is the happy ever after that he's been promised. And it's the one thing that he's never explored in his life, which is peace and harmony.”
That makes Caleb's decision to reveal the truth about Dawn and Billy all the more dangerous. With Joe's carefully constructed future suddenly under threat, the wedding could become the moment everything unravels.
Dawn's Complicated Choice
Olivia Bromley, meanwhile, explains why Dawn's relationship with Joe remains so complicated. Although almost everyone around her has urged her to walk away, Dawn continues to choose him because she believes she sees a side of Joe that others don't.
“There's something deeply romantic about consistently choosing someone because you believe that there's something that other people don't see and you know them in a different way,” she said.
For Olivia, that makes Dawn and Joe's relationship surprisingly poignant. Dawn has come from a life of hardship and now has everything she once dreamed of - a home, a family and security - but she still doesn't completely feel that she belongs in Joe's world.
She added: “They've got very little that binds them and yet they choose each other all the time.”
But Olivia admits there is something almost addictive about Dawn's connection to Joe, raising questions about whether she could ever truly escape him even if her plan with Billy succeeds. Olivia admitted: 'Dawn is an addict in her heart and her soul and she's addicted to Joe Tate'
And when it comes to the wedding itself, both actors are keeping their cards close to their chests. Olivia promises an “explosive and chaotic” day, while Ned believes the scale of the event alone could make it one of the show's most memorable weddings.
“It’s a Tate wedding, what can we say?” Olivia agrees that viewers should expect the unexpected, teasing: “I don't think it's going to go in the direction that people expect.”
Whatever happens, it seems the wedding will be far from the peaceful celebration Dawn has imagined. With betrayal, secrets, revenge and a potential escape all hanging over the big day, the Tate wedding could become one of Emmerdale's defining soap weddings.
As Ned puts it simply: “It will be. It will be.”
