Emmerdale star Bradley Johnson confirms exit live on This Morning

Bradley Johnson has confirmed his exit from Emmerdale during a live appearance on This Morning, revealing that his character Vinny Dingle is leaving the ITV soap after seven and a half years.

The actor appeared on the programme on Wednesday (October 7) to discuss recent dramatic events in the Dales, which saw Vinny confess to causing the fatal car crash that killed Jimmy King (Nick Miles) and Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley).

Exit slip-up on air

During the interview with hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, Bradley spoke about his storyline, saying: "It's really nice to have this sort of exit storyline like where it's not just in the back of the taxi. Hopefully it's something that popular people will remember."

Soap expert Sharon Marshall then pointed out: "You just said exit storyline, I can't help but notice." Bradley replied: "Did I say that?!"

Sharon asked: "You are leaving then?" Bradley then said: "Yeah, seven and a half years. Yeah, it has been an incredible journey. I've loved every second of it."

Emmerdale cast praised

Talking about the Emmerdale cast, Bradley said: "Everyone says it's like a big family, but it really is. Do you know, I've had the most incredible time, met the most amazing people: the cast, the producers, directors."

Vinny's exit follows a turbulent few weeks in the Dales, after it was revealed he was responsible for the crash that caused Dawn and Jimmy's death. Jimmy died at the scene, with his wife Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) saying a gut-wrenching goodbye. A pregnant Dawn survived the crash but later died after giving birth to a baby boy.

Riddled with guilt, Vinny confessed the truth to the police, with flashback scenes showing he was distracted by a video call with Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) while driving, making Jimmy swerve. Although arrested, Vinny has been released on bail ahead of his court hearing, where he faces a jail term.

Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
