Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) is the one who kills Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) in Emmerdale, but it’s an accident. After Todd confronts Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) in her own home, Sarah overhears their heated conversation and moments later Todd ends up dead.
Charity had demanded a confession from Todd, who raped her, but Todd refused. The confrontation was overheard, and Sarah becomes the perpetrator of Todd’s death, though it’s accidental.
Serena and Charity rush to protect Sarah
Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) and Charity jump into action. Serena immediately tries to frame it as self-defence, and Charity confesses that she was the one who did it, as both women try to protect Sarah.
But DS Ramsden isn’t fooled. Charity and Serena meet to discuss their next steps but are interrupted by DS Ramsden, who’s on the prowl for answers.
Jacob’s suspicion and Charity’s decision
Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant) becomes suspicious as Sarah’s behaviour tells him a story, but he vows not to ask any more questions. His trust destabilises Sarah, who feels she needs to tell him, but Charity refuses to let her do it.
Charity makes a huge decision to stick with her confession and face the consequences. The question remains whether Serena can use her police past to help Charity.
