Emmerdale fans are convinced they know who has stolen Robert Sugden's £100,000 winnings after he won a high-stakes poker match against Joe Tate. The ITV soap aired a devastating plot development for Robert, who secured a substantial sum of money, only to have it taken the very same night.
This week on the ITV soap, confident Robert (Ryan Hawley) made preparations to relaunch The Hide following his purchase of the restaurant from Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) using Nicola King's (Nicola Wheeler) inheritance from her deceased husband, Jimmy (Nick Miles). However, when Robert and Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) turned up at The Hide, they were stunned to discover the premises entirely bare.
Gabby appeared, and it quickly emerged that she had exacted revenge on Robert after he exploited her. She stripped every single item from the establishment and revoked all of the permits and licences, aware Robert would be powerless to prevent it.
High-Stakes Poker Match
In a frantic attempt to generate funds rapidly to renovate the venue, Robert organised a poker game against Joe Tate (Ned Porteous). On Friday (October 16), Robert brought together Joe, Claudette Anderson (Flo Wilson), and Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) at The Hide for a high-stakes poker contest. Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) felt uneasy about his partner Robert taking such risks, though Robert remained certain circumstances would favour him.
Robert explained that while he was incarcerated with Kev, they would occupy themselves by playing poker. Yet the initial rounds witnessed Claudette clean out the men completely, forcing them to eliminate her from the game, reports the Daily Star.
With Jai out of his depth, he abandoned the game, leaving Joe to face Robert alone, and the stakes quickly spiralled. Should Robert lose the poker match, Joe would claim ownership of The Hide, but victory would see him pocket Joe's £100,000.
Robert's Costly Mistake
In a stunning turn of events, Robert produced a remarkable hand and claimed victory. Flush with his £100,000 windfall, Robert whisked Serena, Aaron and Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) off to The Woolpack to toast his good fortune. Yet in his moment of triumph, Robert made a catastrophic error: rather than keeping the bag of money firmly within his grasp, he carelessly tucked it into the corner of one of the pub's chairs.
As the night wore on and the drinks continued to flow, Robert was far too preoccupied boasting about his £100,000 windfall to notice that the bag of cash had vanished. Emmerdale viewers are convinced his ex-husband, Kev Barton (Chris Coghill), is the culprit, having been spotted lingering at the bar clutching his folded jacket.
Fan Reactions
Taking to X, one viewer wrote: "Kev has deffo got that money in his jacket, as he should, because Robert needs humbling. It's funny watching Robert call Kev out for cheating, then doing the same thing. Watch there be a scene of Robert calling Kev out for stealing when he's stolen money off a widow too #emmerdale."
A second added: "Love the fact that Kev stole from Robert; couldn't happen to a better person. Now let's hope he loses everything. #Emmerdale", while a third chimed in: "Payback is a b****! Love me some Kev #emmerdale."
"Kev took that money!", stated one fan, as another echoed the sentiment: "I think Kev stole the money and will pay back Claudette and put the rest into the church fund #Emmerdale." Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV and ITVX.
