Emmerdale viewers have expressed concern that Moira Dingle's brain tumour may have returned, after spotting what they described as a "strange" detail in recent scenes. Fans of the ITV soap have been worried for the character, played by Natalie J. Robb, following her behaviour during confrontations with Lydia and Sam Dingle.
Moira's recent storyline
Moira first appeared in the Dales in 2009 and has since become one of the programme's most beloved characters. Over the years, she has featured in several unforgettable storylines, including her affair with her current husband Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), the killing of Emma Barton (Gillian Kearney), a relationship with Cain's long-lost son Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter), and receiving a diagnosis of a meningioma brain tumour.
Earlier this year, Moira was wrongfully jailed after Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) blackmailed Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) into planting illegal IDs at Butler's Farm. She returned to the village following several months of incarceration and took up residence at Wishing Well cottage.
Tension at the cottage
The mood at the cottage has grown strained following news of Samson Dingle's (Sam Hall) imminent return. Samson received a four-year prison sentence in August 2024 for perverting the course of justice. After an incident at The Hide, his friend Josh Cope (Osian Morgan) pushed him into Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano), who was holding a knife. Rather than revealing the truth, Josh coerced Samson into falsely alleging that Matty had deliberately stabbed him.
The lie led to Matty's wrongful imprisonment, where he lived in constant fear as a transgender man. Following months of silence and pressure from relatives, Samson ultimately admitted the truth to authorities, resulting in his arrest. Having recently welcomed Matty to live at the cottage, Moira has found it difficult to accept Samson's impending release, sparking disagreements with Samson's stepmother, Lydia (Karen Blick).
Viewers share their concerns
During Friday's (October 16) episode, Matty chose to move out of the cottage, unwilling to compromise Samson's release. He encouraged his mother to try forgiving Samson, as he had managed to do. Moira subsequently delivered a warning to Samson's father, Sam (James Hooton), stating: "If you still want Samson to come here, I won't stand in his way. But you need to understand, it won't be easy living with him after what he did to Matty... Cain's health is my priority, so if Samson causes him or Matty any additional stress, then you and me are gonna have a problem."
After watching the tense scenes, some viewers are convinced Moira's brain tumour might have returned, having observed her acting "out of character." One viewer commented on a Facebook fan page: "Moira is really acting out of character. Hopefully she's not unwell again." Another agreed: "I thought the same last night." A third questioned: "I wondered if her tumour is back. They better not kill her off." Someone else shared similar concerns: "Has her cancer returned? She has been acting strange recently."
Emmerdale airs weekday nights at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
