DIY SOS original cast: From Strictly injuries to new careers

The BBC's long-running transformation show DIY SOS has featured a rotating lineup of team members since it first aired in 1999. Led by Nick Knowles, the tradespeople and volunteers gave up their time for free to rebuild homes for families facing extreme hardship or medical crises.

The hit makeover show, now in its 35th series, is beloved by fans for its natural banter and bickering among the regular tradespeople on site. Current stars include Nick, Gabrielle Blackman, Chris Frediani, Billy Byrne, Rahda Siyver and Ashley Edwards, but many viewers will recall the host working alongside Lowri Turner, Julian Perryman and Mark Millar.

Nick Knowles: Strictly injuries and elimination

Nick has been a core member of the DIY SOS team since the very beginning and continues to front the series, bringing the often heart-wrenching stories behind the builds to screens. He has also explored other forms of reality TV, starring on Strictly Come Dancing and I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!

In 2024, Nick joined the star-studded line-up of the BBC dance contest, paired with professional dancer Luba Mushtuk. However, his time on the show was brought to an abrupt end after suffering two injuries. The 64-year-old injured his shoulder while changing a tyre before the second week and later injured his knee during rehearsal, forcing him to miss Movie Week. After returning to perform a Charleston in week four, Nick was eliminated in the dance-off against actor Shayne Ward.

Lowri Turner: From showbiz to healthcare

Lowri Turner joined DIY SOS in 1999 as presenter and left after series eight, stepping away from showbiz completely. Although she was well known for her contributions to GMTV, The Wright Stuff and Would Like To Meet, she has since turned her sights to healthcare. Today, she works as a private nutritional therapist and clinical hypnotherapist.
