Sarah Platt's (Tina O'Brien) murder trial began in Coronation Street on October 14, and it got off to a very bad start. Earlier this year, Sarah was involved in a confrontation with Todd Grimshaw's (Gareth Pierce) abusive partner, Theo Silverton (James Cartwright). Sarah attacked Theo with a metal pole, which caused him to fall over some scaffolding. Believing she had killed him, Sarah called Gary Windass (Mikey North) for help.
The pair kept the truth about Theo a secret for a long time, but Sarah's guilt eventually led to her arrest by DS Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers). She has been in custody ever since.
Courtroom Testimony Takes a Turn
The Platt family arrived at court for the trial, with Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) already anxious as she hides her pregnancy with her mum's ex-boyfriend's baby. As proceedings began, Lisa took the stand and, when asked about Sarah's confession, admitted that hiding the truth for so long was not normal behaviour for someone who acted in self-defence. Her truthful testimony did not help Sarah's case.
Next, Danielle (Natalie Anderson), Theo's ex-wife, confirmed in her statement that while her relationship with Theo often involved fights, he was never physically violent towards her. When the barrister suggested that Theo and Todd's relationship featured 'trading blows', Sarah leapt to Todd's defence.
Sarah's Outbursts Cause Chaos
This was the start of Sarah making another big mistake. Believing Danielle's claim that Theo would never hurt a woman, Sarah spoke up again, telling the jury she knew Theo was going to kill her on that night. The chaos caused by Sarah forced the judge to pause the trial. Sarah was taken back to her cell, leaving her family deeply worried.
Later, in the pub, David expressed hope that things would go their way the next day, making it clear that all hope rests with Todd. Taking the stand, Todd will be forced to recall what Theo put him through while ensuring he doesn't say anything that threatens Sarah's future. He is already anxious—the question remains whether he can do it.
