Coronation Street fans have been left fuming over DS Lisa Connor-Swain's treatment in the long-running show's latest scenes, as Sarah Platt's murder trial was seen getting underway.
Sarah has been behind bars since she confessed to killing Theo Silverton in the ITV soap, which is filmed in Salford. But the confession came weeks after the evil builder's lifeless body was found by a horrified Betsy Swain on the night of her mum Lisa's wedding to Carla Connor, which took place on April 23.
It wasn't until a week after the wedding aired that it was confirmed Theo had died after the murder was teased to be him and four other Weatherfield villains - Jodie Ramsey, Maggie Driscoll, Carl Webster and Megan Walsh.
Murder investigation and confession
A murder investigation quickly got underway, with Corrie confirming Theo's husband, Todd, as a suspect, along with his loved ones, George Shuttleworth, Summer Spellman, Christina Boyd, as well as Theo's friend-turned enemy, Gary Windass, and Theo's ex-wife, Danielle Silverton.
It was then, when flashback scenes aired in Corrie in June, that it was revealed that it was Sarah who appeared to deal the blow that sent a drunk Theo tumbling off the scaffolding outside his flat and plummeting to the ground - before she called on her former flame, Gary Windass, for help.
As Todd struggled in the aftermath of his abusive husband's murder, Sarah ended up confessing the truth of her crime to her best friend, while her partner, DC Kit Green, found out when she admitted to killing Theo as he was trying to pop the question.
Trial begins and fans react
Despite Kit's attempts to help cover up her crime, Sarah was arrested on suspicion of killing Theo. She was later charged as the evidence stacked against her, and Sarah ended up admitting to the murder, telling DS Lisa Connor-Swain it was in self-defence.
This week, after months behind bars on remand, Sarah will get the chance to fight for her freedom as she tries to convince the jury that she didn't kill Theo in cold blood, and new spoilers for next week's Corrie have confirmed that Sarah will finally learn her fate.
During Wednesday's (October 14) edition of Corrie, Sarah's family, Bethany, David and Shona Platt, and her former husband Adam Barlow, all headed to court, and listened as Sarah appeared in the dock, as the prosecution barrister told the jury that Sarah had attacked Theo in support of her best friend, Todd Grimshaw, after learning of his abuse at the hands of his husband, Theo.
Lisa and Theo's ex-wife, Danielle, was seen giving their evidence, which didn't go in Sarah's favour. Later, in the Rovers, David confronted Lisa for not helping Sarah, accusing her of 'sabotaging' her defence, something which didn't please Corrie fans.
@TheConnorSwains said: "Everyone on the street always wants Lisa to do her job until she actually, God forbid, does her job! STFU David! #Swarla #Corrie." @mishybabez_ replied: "David needs to give it a rest! Lisa is just doing her job fgs." @DrSwarla2025 echoed: "DS Connor-Swain is only doing her job and telling the truth maybe David should do the same with Jodie. #corrie."
@terrilindsay shared: "I mean, Lisa lives next door to Jodie the kleptomaniac who stole her ID. David and Shona who are trying to cover up that they shot Jodie. Who are also related to Sarah who did in-fact murder someone, which in turn traumatised Betsy and delayed the Connor-Swain honeymoon. But yes by all means Lisa is the bad guy here. #Swarla."
