Coronation Street fans have said the response to Sam Blakeman's crypto confession in the long-running ITV soap is 'outrageous' as they were quick to cast the same verdict about the latest scenes.
As those who follow the show, filmed in Salford, know, the teenager has not been himself since being involved in a recent grooming plot between Megan Walsh and Will Driscoll, which resulted in the teen being hospitalised.
After dealing with threats from Megan, and Will denying what had been going on between himself and his running coach before the truth finally prevailed, Sam ended up suffering with his mental health, with heartbreaking scenes showing his visual and auditory hallucinations intensifying.
Sam's mental health struggles
Things eventually came to a head when Sam locked himself in the cafe, having heard Roy Cropper, whom he was hallucinating in a more evil manner, warning him that Will was going to kill him. Eventually, Sam's family realised what was going on and took him for medical attention, and he was eventually treated for a schizophrenia diagnosis.
His family have since been trying to support his return home from the hospital and to school, but they appear to have been completely unaware of how Sam has really been feeling.
As viewers saw last week, pub landlady Eva Price fell ill, but was left alone with her partner, Ben Driscoll, taking her daughter, Susie Price, to an audition, and her mother-in-law, Maggie Driscoll, on a trip back to Ireland.
Eva's fall and the confession
It was Carla Connor-Swain who encouraged her to close up the Rovers for the rest of the day in order for her to recover, as she coughed and spluttered from behind the bar. After Carl Webster helped her tidy up, she went down to the cellar to grab some boxes of crisps when she heard a noise from upstairs.
When she went back up, she found her nephew, Sam, looking for his missing phone, which had earlier been confiscated by dad, Nick Tilsley. As Eva caught him by surprise, a panicked Sam tried to get away and in the process, knocked her down the cellar steps. But instead of getting help, he stood over her lifeless body.
He eventually realised she was alive, but instead of getting help, he rushed out, and it was Glenda Shuttleworth who eventually found Eva in a bit of a state and called the emergency services for help. Eva was then seen recovering in the hospital, with questions being asked about what happened after money also went missing from the pub, leading to police thinking Eva's attack was connected.
But as Corrie fans saw, Eva eventually remembered it was Sam who pushed her and during Thursday's (October 1) episode, Eva was settling in back home when she sat down her sisters, Leanne and Toyah Battersby, to tell them the truth. Stunned, they relayed the information to his dad, Nick Tilsley, and the trio confronted him.
Fans' reaction to the crypto twist
He admitted to being responsible for what happened to Eva, but that wasn't all he had to say. Sam revealed he needed his phone so desperately because he'd invested £6,200 - and 47 pence - in cryptocurrency. "I applied for a credit card in your name through a different bank. I've got all the passcodes. I set up an email address to deal with everything," Sam admitted, while Leanne raged: "Do you know what? I can't believe this. Megan or no Megan, illness or no illness, this is totally unacceptable!"
But Corrie fans were baffled by the strong reaction to the cryptocurrency confession, over what he'd done to Eva. @charityslimo said: "Sorry but not only did sam PUSH EVA DOWN THE STAIRS (!!!) he LIED about it for days- he didn’t confess, eva remembered!! ben had every right to kick off and dont even get me started on the crypto shite i cant be a**ed #corrie."
@J_WBerry commented: "So, Leanne, Toyah & Nick were full of sympathy and understanding when they discovered Sam had pushed Eva down the stairs and nearly killed her. But, hit the roof when they found out he'd bought £6,200.47 of crypto currency with Nick's money?! Strange priorities #Corrie." @michellefergknowles wrote: "I find it annoying they had more of a reaction to the crypto than they did to Sam pushing Eva down the stairs and leaving her for dead!" @kcita_eel_nevets added: "So its ok to make Eva fall down stairs and not get help, but crypto is the limit! outrageous."
