Chester Zoo has changed the wording of its 'child predator tour' tickets after the phrase was ridiculed online. The 90-minute bus tour, which takes visitors around 130 acres to spot predators, originally listed tickets as 'child predator tour' for £25 and 'adult predator tour' for £30.
Online reaction to the naming blunder
The wording attracted strong reaction on social media, with users mocking the choice of name. One social media user wrote: "Let's all go to Chester Zoo for the... child predator tour." Another added: "When your marketing team doesn’t think through the naming process: 'one child predator tour please'." A third said: "Crazy - Chester Zoo calling the child ticket for their Predator and Prey guided walk tour a 'Child Predator Tour'."
Zoo's explanation and correction
The zoo quickly changed the tickets to 'Child Tour' and 'Adult Tour'. A zoo spokeswoman said the error was "due to our default naming convention in our system", but when it was spotted, it was "quickly changed". The Predator Tour page now reads: "Encounter some of the world’s best predators right here at Chester Zoo, as you travel around our 130 acres on your very own tour bus." It adds: "Discover how we encourage our animal predators to exhibit natural behaviours through enrichment! Visit Dragons in Danger where you’ll learn how Komodo dragons use their tongue to detect their next meal."
Tour details and availability
The tour is available to children aged four or over and includes sightings of Sumatran tigers and Komodo dragons. The experience is guided and covers the zoo's 130-acre site.
