Celebrity Traitors fans 'work out' first murdered star

Celebrity Traitors viewers believe they have worked out who will be the first murdered contestant, after a leaked detail about James Acaster's panic during filming emerged last month. The first episode ended on a major cliffhanger, with Richard E Grant and Maya Jama luring two celebrities to the church at night, planning to recruit one and murder another.

Cliffhanger ending leaves fans guessing

Tonight (October 2), either Amol Rajan or James Acaster will join Richard E Grant and Maya Jama on the dark side, after being chosen to be recruited or murdered. Claudia Winkleman's ultimate game of trust and deception kicked off to a bombshell start on Thursday, 1 October, as the 21 celebrities were introduced to the game.

She chose Richard and Maya to be her Traitors, with the actor exposing his true identity within minutes, while Ross Kemp's paranoia turned on everyone and James Blunt broke the internet with his 'bread and butter' confession.

Leaked detail sparks theories

Fans are convinced it will be comedian James who remains in the game, meaning Amol will be murdered, after a leaked detail emerged last month about an incident involving James that is believed to occur during a Round Table - which has not yet happened. It was reported that at one point during filming James was so panicked that his co-stars and producers stepped in.

A source told The Sun: "The show is incredibly intense and during one particular scene at the castle, James became very anxious and panicked. Some of the other celebrities on the show spoke up and said cameras should stop rolling so he could calm down, and production were in agreement as well. Everyone looks out for each other and there is a proper sense of camaraderie. It was good for James to have a breather, as everyone felt it was for the best. The break didn't affect the outcome of the game at all, but showed just how passionate and tense everyone on set was. It's easy to become fully immersed."

Fans react on social media

After noticing that detail, viewers think it must mean James stays in the game. One person wrote on X: "It's gonna be James Acaster because of that news story the other day." Another wrote: "Don't we know that something happens to stress James out majorly at some point so Amol has to be the one who gets murdered."

Someone else said they "knew" James gets chosen as the Traitor because they had read about him having a meltdown at a Round Table, adding: "And there hasn't been a Round Table yet!" Yet another echoed: "This spoils that James is recruited." Others threw their backing behind James, with one writing: "I need to see James Acaster's Traitor era like I need air to breathe." Someone else said: "If James Acaster has gone already I'll be gutted."

Ahead of the series airing, James shared how much of a fan he was of the show. He said: "I just love it. I'm a huge fan and have been since series one. I instantly got addicted to it when I started watching. I think I started watching it halfway through the first series, so I was catching up on iPlayer. I did all of it in one night and then got really frustrated that I had to wait for all the other episodes. And then I really loved the first Celebrity series and instantly became jealous that I wasn't doing it. I had to get in here!"

When asked if he could win, he replied: "I have genuinely no idea at all. Because every time I watch any of the series there seems to be no rhyme or reason. People can be really quiet, and they make it to the end. People are huge characters, and they make it to the end. You can be quiet and go under the radar; you can be a big character and end up putting yourself in the firing line. Anyone could get to the end. You can avoid murder or banishment by simply not being respected enough to be seen as a threat. And I think I could very easily be seen as not a threat. Yeah, I could be there to the end. It's anyone's game really."

The Celebrity Traitors continues tonight, Friday 2 October, at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
