Celebrity Traitors viewers expressed their relief as the second episode of the hit BBC show returned to their screens on Friday night. It was an intense first episode as the cliffhanger revealed the first exit was on the horizon.
This week, 21 famous faces arrived at Ardross Castle in the Scottish highlands as host Claudia Winkleman invited them to play a game of betrayal and deceit.
Game format and prize fund
The hit BBC series has returned for its second instalment as the game follows the celebrity contestants – the majority of whom are known as Faithfuls – as they try to seek out the murderous traitors among them, who kill off players in the middle of the night.
Stars compete to win a cash prize of up to £100,000 for a charity of their choice. Last year, it was an intense final as Nick Mohammed turned on Joe Marler at the last minute and voted him to be banished - with everyone else in agreement, Joe sadly walked away from the prize pot. In a turn of events, traitor Alan Carr remained undetected and thus he swept the entire amount, £87,500 for his chosen charity - Neuroblastoma UK.
Traitor reveal and first exit
On Thursday (October 1), Maya Jama and Richard E Grant were chosen as the traitors on the series return of The Celebrity Traitors. Richard made an accidental blunder as he revealed he was a traitor to the rest of the famous faces minutes after finding out. Comedian Joe Lycett was stunned by his confession and said: “I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear that.”
After ending on a cliffhanger last night, it was revealed on Friday that Amol Rajan was the first to leave, thus James Acaster was recruited as the third traitor. The result was shown at breakfast, as the faithfuls anxiously awaited to see who wouldn't be showing up. Of course, there was heartbreak for Amol and fingers still pointed towards Ross Kemp and Richard around the table.
Fan reaction to James Acaster
Viewers were relieved that James survived another day, after threatening to "turn it off" if he was the first to exit. On X a viewer wrote: "JAMES ACASTER THIS IS GOING TO BE INCREDIBLE" Another one added: "I've never been more grateful James is here, I almost turned it off. MY WINNER!!!" A third viewer echoed: "James screen time going up oh I’m so excited this is all I’ve been waiting for".
