Big Brother viewers have criticised the latest twist on the ITV reality series, as Gemma Collins appeared to leave the house just over 48 hours after her dramatic entrance during the live show on Friday night (October 9). Hosts Aj Odudu and Will Best welcomed the former The Only Way Is Essex star as the latest celebrity guest, following previous temporary residents Jedward and YouTuber Tays.
Fans notice Gemma's early exit
Fans noticed that Gemma had already left the house after she was spotted on a TikTok live promoting products earlier today. ITV also shared a preview clip ahead of tonight's episode (October 12), in which Gemma is nowhere to be seen, despite being set to lead the latest task for the housemates.
Some noted that she was always supposed to spend around 48 hours in the house, and she is also set to appear on Big Brother: The Group Chat after the main show this evening. However, viewers pointed out that entering during Friday's show might have made it feel like she had not featured enough.
Viewers call the twist 'pathetic'
One fan claimed: "I think it has an impact with no Saturday night episode and having to go from eviction night to Sundays episode. Bit on the side filled that void of the missing episode."
Another fan noted: "The fact Gemma Collins isn’t even in today’s sneak peek, is already out of the House, and is on TikTok live flogging stuff in the shop. Can’t say we didn’t warn ITV way back in week one that celebrity House Guests were not worth it."
Someone else added: "They needed to either have her longer or just brought her in for a specific task and not hype it up as much." One fan put forward: "They're (Celebrity guests) worth it but they need to get celebrities that will do Friday till Friday. Staying 24 hours is just pathetic."
Comparisons to Jedward and calls for a bigger role
Others used Jedward's time on the show as an example that a celebrity housemate can work. One replied: "Jedward did brilliant, Gemma not so much. Pointless, she did nothing expect host the tasks?"
Meanwhile, some suggested Gemma should have been handed a mission or specific role. They said: "She should've came in with a purpose other than standing watching them build towers." Another shared a similar view and hoped it could still come before her exit is shown: "She's basically been a games host. To a very poor game. She's had a chaotic life recently. But she needed to have some power. Hopefully we get that tonight. Maybe a killer nom."
One fan hoped she would at least go out with a bang. They said: "I'm going reserve judgement until after tonight's episode but... Gemma Collins going in for a few days has been a waste of time. A very expensive one. Celebrity Guests may boost interest in the show but that's the only positive, but the cast should be doing that anyway."
