Beyond Paradise Fans Will Love This Cosy Detective Series

Beyond Paradise fans looking for their next fix don't have to look much further. North American viewers have recently gone wild for a cosy detective series that's set to premiere in the UK on Friday (August 21).

What is You're Killing Me about?

Similar to the quaint location of Shipton Abbott, six-part murder mystery You're Killing Me is set in a small New England town and follows a bestselling novelist who teams up with an aspiring writer in a bid to find the person who murdered a close friend.

"Set in a quaint New England town, the mystery follows bestselling novelist, Allie (Brooke Shields), who forms an unlikely alliance with aspiring writer and podcaster, Andi (Amalia Williamson), to find the killer of a close friend," the official synopsis reads. "Tom Cavanagh stars as Jack, the new lead detective of the local Police Department and former city slicker who is trying to acclimate to the quirks of small-town life."

Cast and creator praise

Speaking about the series last year, lead star Brooke Shields, who also acted as an executive producer, said: "I'm overjoyed to collaborate once again with the incredible Robin Bernheim [creator] who has created two strong, smart women you want to root for within Allie and Andi. The writing and storytelling really resonate with me, and this is a project I'm not only proud of but a role I can't wait to play."

The drama's cast also includes Laura Kohoot, Gabriel Burrafato, Jennifer Vallance, Kate Drummond, and Kian Zarkechvari.

Fan reactions

Fans have been quick to share their praise on social media after watching the series, which premiered in North America in May. One IMDb user wrote: "It's a really cute and enjoyable drama. Better than most of its rivals."

Another added: "What a great series! Humour and mystery - the best! Love the writing and the acting. Brooke Shields is a great actress and often overlooked and not recognised. Her comedic timing is brilliant and Tom Cavanagh shines as well. He is terrific."

A third said: "Finally another great crime show with two female leads and filled with so many laughs for most age groups. I can watch with my teenager or with my husband or my friends. The humour somehow joins two age groups together so blissfully and easily that it's like conversations that we have with our teenagers."

Someone else wrote: "I really like this show. Maybe it's not for everyone but I love that it's light, fun and easy to watch. It has the same feel as My Life is Murder and Agatha Raisin. If you like those, you'll like this. The mysteries are simple but it's the characters who you care about."

You're Killing Me lands on Channel 4 and U on Friday, August 21.
