Amy Dowden returns to Strictly as Delta Goodrem's replacement
Amy Dowden returns to Strictly for Delta Goodrem

Amy Dowden is heading back to the Strictly Come Dancing dance floor this Saturday, stepping in alongside Kai Widdrington while Delta Goodrem recovers from a broken rib.

The news was shared on Wednesday's episode of Lorraine, with Vogue Williams revealing the Welsh dancer would return for Icons Week. Amy and her partner Chris Appleton were the first couple eliminated from the 2026 series, a result that left her "heartbroken."

Delta Goodrem ruled out

Delta was ruled out of this weekend's show earlier in the week. Vogue said the singer had danced despite her injury, topping the leaderboard with 33 points for her salsa with Kai.

Discussing who would fill their slot on Saturday, Vogue told Lorraine Kelly: "Well, you'll be very happy with this. So it's Amy Dowden and Kai."

She added that the pair were expected to perform to Dolly Parton's Jolene, saying: "But it's good to see her back, but she's going to be dancing with Kai, and supposedly to Dolly Parton's Jolene."

Delta's future uncertain

Delta's future in the competition remains uncertain. According to Vogue, Strictly's rules allow an injured contestant to take one week off, with a decision on whether Delta can continue due by Monday.

Vogue explained: "So by next Monday, they have to make a decision on whether or not she's able to dance, and if she can't dance by next Monday, then she's out of the competition."

Delta shared her disappointment in an Instagram statement after her withdrawal was announced. She said: "I'm absolutely gutted that a rib injury means I won't be able to dance on Strictly this week."

Delta's statement

The singer said she had been loving the experience and described missing the show as heartbreaking, particularly after Saturday's performance.

She added, "I can not tell you how much I love being a part of this magical show. I'm going to focus on resting and recovering, and hopefully, I'll be back on that dancefloor very soon."

Delta also thanked fans for their support and said she would be cheering everyone on from the sidelines this week.

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9.30am on ITV.
