Fans of 24 Hours in Police Custody have hit out at the popular show, making the same complaint about a new two-parter. The landmark documentary continues to amass a huge following since its first release in 2014 on Channel 4, with viewers of the show regularly calling for new episodes.
Their prayers were answered recently with a brand new two-part special, titled 'The Ambush', once again plunging viewers into a chilling investigation. It follows a four year investigation into a brutal and near fatal assault on a 17-year-old boy in Luton.
Fans disappointed with part two
However, fans were unimpressed when the first part aired on August 30, but they realised they had a wait on their hands, with part two not being released until last night (Sunday, September 6).
A synopsis for the episodes reads: "A 17-year-old boy is found by the roadside with catastrophic head injuries. His twin says the boy had gone to meet a girl. But was it a trap?"
Viewers issue same complaint
However, after a week of waiting, many viewers were unimpressed by what they saw and issued the same complaint - that the instalment could have been played back-to-back, or even in one episode.
On X, one viewer said: "Well that was disappointing.. #24hoursinpolicecustody", as another wrote: "That second episode really wasn’t needed…" A third commented: "We had to wait a week for that? I want to see justice, it feels awful watching these shows when there’s no real resolution or justice."
A fourth added: "Time to call it a day if you’re going to do such an awful 2 parter and making people wait for what’s possibly the most boring episode of them all. All week for that."
Mixed reactions from viewers
A fifth penned: "Has to double check it was a two-parter & not three. Very rushed last 5 mins." A sixth replied: "#24hoursinpolicecustody The Ambush. Well, that's 2 hours of my life I'm never going to get back. Long, drawn out, and boring. Could have wrapped up the whole thing in 30 mins."
Another asked: "Can we just have a double episode next time please. That wasn’t worth the wait." However, not everyone agreed as one person wrote: "Mental episode this #24hoursinpolicecustody." Another said: "We definitely need more episodes of #24hoursinpolicecustody."
Series success continues
The series however continues to be a huge success as it transports viewers into the heart of a major investigation, following detectives as they search for justice. From the moment a 999 call is made, episodes often follow a case right through to conviction as viewers are given unprecedented access into policing work.
After the brand new release, it is not yet known when or if new episodes will air with Channel 4 yet to confirm any news. But fans will be on the edge of their seats waiting for an announcement. 24 Hours in Police Custody can be streamed on Channel 4.
