Bonnie Tyler, the iconic singer known for her hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart," died earlier this month at age 75 after complications from emergency surgery for a perforated intestine. Now, her funeral plans have been confirmed, and fans are being asked to participate in two meaningful ways.
Funeral Details and Fan Participation
According to a statement from William Pressdee Funeralcare on behalf of Bonnie’s family, a "celebration of life" will take place. The funeral notice reads: “Resting at William Pressdee Funeralcare, Mumbles until she returns to her home, Fernhill, on Saturday 15th August at 3.30pm - those who wish to pay their respects are invited to line Newton Road, Mumbles from 3.15pm.”
A public service will be held at Swansea Minster (St. Mary's Church) on Monday 17th August at 12noon, followed by a procession through Skewen at approximately 1.20pm en route to a private family committal.
Charity Donations Requested
In lieu of flowers, fans are encouraged to donate to two charities that Bonnie supported as patron: Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales and Cerebral Palsy Cymru. The funeral notice states: “She is remembered as a warm, generous artist whose music touched generations and continues to fill dance floors and karaoke booths around the world. Her legacy lives on in the timeless songs that made her a legend.”
Bonnie, whose real name was Gaynor Hopkins, died on July 8 after being placed in an induced coma following emergency surgery, during which she suffered a cardiac arrest and had to be resuscitated. She is survived by her family and a global fanbase.
