Alana Haim has revealed that she created the 'Stevie Knicks' T-shirt worn by Taylor Swift at an NBA game in New York City. Swift attended game four of the NBA Finals on Wednesday, where the New York Knicks faced the San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden. Sitting courtside, Swift was joined by Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Mariska Hargitay, both wearing blue shirts featuring orange lettering that read 'Stevie Knicks'.
Haim Sisters Coordinate Their Shirts
Alana and Este Haim were also seated nearby, wearing their own pun-inspired shirts. Alana's shirt said 'Knickelback', while Este's read 'Knicole Kidman'. It has now been confirmed that Alana Haim designed all the unique tops. Her representative told Vogue that she purchased the shirts for $2.99 each before applying screen-printing ink to them.
Alana's Passion for DIY Merch
The musician shared her love for creating custom merchandise for her band's tours, which includes her sisters Este and Danielle. 'Every time we go on the road, the first thing we do is go to the local thrift store in whatever city we’re in and buy vintage shirts. It’s our tour memento,' she said. 'I’ve wanted to make my own shirts forever, but I could never figure it out, but when I got home from our last tour, I bought a Cricut (a precision vinyl and paper-cutting printer).'
Explaining the process for the Knicks tops, Haim revealed that Swift initiated the project with a text request. 'She said, “I want to wear this shirt to the game, can you make it for me?”, and I was like, “I thought you would never ask, this is my dream”. Whenever I start out a session with a friend, I go: “Let’s talk about fonts, let’s talk about sizing”, and (Swift) came up with Stevie Knicks.'
Haim added that they exchanged puns and decided to have fun with the idea, ultimately creating the shirts for everyone to wear. Swift also wanted extras for friends, which is how Hargitay ended up with one. 'Mariska was so down; she’s such an amazing human being, and I’m such a big fan of her, so the fact that she also wanted to wear one of my shirts was insane. It really bonded us all together,' Haim said.
The actress, who has appeared in films like Licorice Pizza, One Battle After Another, and The Drama, described the clothing printing as a 'creative outlet'. Other stars at the game included Timothee Chalamet, Kylie Jenner, Sydney Sweeney, Scooter Braun, Adam Sandler, and Michael J Fox.
