Westlife brought their 25th Anniversary World Tour to Manchester's Co-op Live, delivering a performance that turned the arena into a sea of nostalgia and proved why the band continues to sell out major venues after nearly 30 years together.
Fans filled the room wearing band t-shirts, and as the lights dropped with the opening notes of 'World of Our Own', the crowd sang every lyric back with equal passion. A quick transition into the 2001 Billy Joel cover 'Uptown Girl' sparked one of the biggest singalongs of the night.
Tour Milestones and Energetic Performances
The tour began on September 10 in Dublin and has since included 31 shows across the UK and Ireland. Despite the demanding schedule, the band's charisma and infectious energy flowed from the stage throughout the evening.
For every high-tempo nostalgia trip, a quintessential Westlife ballad followed. 'Queen of My Heart', the opening track from their 2001 album 'World of Our Own', softened the mood and became one of the evening's most memorable moments, paving the way for a string of beloved ballads including 'My Love'.
Ballads and Fan Connection
The stripped-back opening notes of 'My Love' brought the whole room together, with phones becoming makeshift torches as warmth spread across the crowd. Westlife excelled during the ballads, with the strength of the set lying in the group's vocal chemistry on classics like 'Flying Without Wings' and 'If I Let You Go'.
Irish flags appeared throughout the crowd during several songs, each one acknowledged by the band, serving as a reminder of their strong connection to home and its influence on their music.
Encore and Finale
'You Raise Me Up' and 'Swear It Again' made up the encore, bringing the night to a close. The band performed with an effortless ease that comes from years of experience, delivering a catalogue of hits worthy of two consecutive nights at the Co-op Live.
