American funk-rock trio High Fade, who boast 475,000 Instagram followers, busked at Newcastle's Monument on Thursday afternoon, drawing a sizeable crowd ahead of their gig at Digital.
Impromptu performance at the landmark
The band, currently touring the UK, arrived in Newcastle on Wednesday and headed for food at Lola Jeans, near Monument, before playing at the famous spot. Their set lasted for a few hours as more people turned up to watch and filmed the performance on their phones.
Even those not in town specifically to see High Fade could hear them from a distance. The band delivered an electric performance before thanking those who watched and urging anyone without a ticket for their Friday gig at Digital to buy one.
Fans react online
Sharing a photo from the busking session to their near 500,000 followers on Instagram, High Fade wrote: 'Absolutely locked in today in Newcastle.. we hit the Monument spot for about 4 hours and played some seriously hardcore PHONK in the streets.'
Fans who caught the set voiced their delight in the comments, while others who missed it were left disappointed. One local replied: 'I was in the mighty Newcastle shooting at the Theatre Royal today and missed this.'
