Birmingham is set to immortalise one of its most iconic sons, Ozzy Osbourne, by renaming a street in his honour. The legendary Black Sabbath frontman, whose career has spanned over five decades, will be celebrated with the tribute in his hometown.
The proposal, put forward by Birmingham City Council, recognises Osbourne's immense contribution to music and his role in shaping the heavy metal genre. The street, yet to be confirmed, will serve as a permanent reminder of the city's rich musical heritage.
Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy's wife and long-time manager, expressed her delight at the news, calling it a "fitting tribute" to her husband's legacy. "Ozzy has always been proud of his Birmingham roots," she said. "This honour means the world to him and our family."
Black Sabbath, formed in Birmingham in 1968, is widely regarded as one of the most influential bands in rock history. The group's dark, heavy sound laid the foundations for metal music, inspiring countless artists worldwide.
The council's decision follows years of campaigning by fans and local music enthusiasts. A spokesperson stated: "Ozzy Osbourne is a global icon, but he's also a Brummie through and through. This recognition is long overdue."
While an official date for the renaming ceremony hasn't been set, it's expected to take place in the coming months, with Osbourne himself likely to attend.
