Mikey Graham has revealed the emotional moment that convinced him to rejoin Boyzone for their final shows, despite initially doubting he would ever return to the stage.
The singer, 54, had retreated from public life after Boyzone's 2019 split, living quietly in rural Ireland. He returned to the stage in June 2026, joining Ronan Keating, Shane Lynch and Keith Duffy for their farewell performances at London's Emirates Stadium.
A Difficult Path Back
The band had worried Mikey might not appear at all after he missed rehearsals. A new Sky documentary, One For The Road, explores the behind-the-scenes tensions and Mikey's anxieties about returning to the spotlight.
Speaking in the film, Mikey explained: "I never thought I was going to get well enough and strong enough to do all of this stuff. There was a time in the last couple of years that it was a massive struggle to just get my foot out of the bed. I was just after finishing a divorce, selling my home of 30 years, and my mother dying, and I was absolutely crippled, emotionally crippled."
Soul Searching and Regret
Despite his mental health battles, the singer feared he would regret missing the band's final shows. "I had to do some soul searching," he shared. "I asked myself the question, 'Are you able to live with the regret of not doing this?'"
He decided to give fans what they had been waiting for. "I thought to myself, 'Yeah, do it. Do it,'" Mikey said. He later revealed that "it felt amazing" to be back on stage, adding: "To walk away from this with my head held high. I feel healed."
A Farewell on Their Own Terms
Mikey's bandmates are shown panicking about his absence throughout the documentary, which is available to stream on NOW.
Sky's synopsis for the film teases: "Following the group's efforts behind the scenes as they prepare for the final shows of the band's career, Boyzone: One For The Road will trace the decades of their shared personal history and tension and allow the group to get it out in the open once and for all."
The synopsis adds: "In a raw and heart-warming final trip down memory lane, the special will explore the lasting bonds of friendship, cementing a legacy, and finding peace and forgiveness. Having previously said goodbye to the band in 2019, this time they want to do it on their own terms – and in a way they, and the fans, deserve."
