Jade Thirlwall has shared a powerful piece of advice for aspiring musicians following the success of her debut solo album, That's Showbiz, Baby. The former Little Mix star, 33, was pipped to the Mercury Prize Award by Raye on Thursday but remains a force in the industry.
A Night in Newcastle
The South Shields native wowed the crowd at the ceremony in her hometown of Newcastle with a rendition of her solo anthem "Angel of My Dreams." The track broke into the Top 10 in the charts last year and saw a resurgence after Kylie Jenner walked in the iconic Fantasy Bra at Victoria's Secret on October 18.
Following the viral moment, the song's streams jumped from 18,000 to 284,000 in one day across the United States, a rise of 1,434 per cent. It later entered Spotify's US Daily Top Songs at Number 197, two years after its release.
Staying Grounded
Despite her rising success, Jade remains grounded. She exclusively told the Mirror: "Always believe in your dream and keep practising. You have to believe it more than anybody else."
She passed this message to her niece, Amara, who featured on her track "Before You Break My Heart." The tune first appeared in her performance at the BBC Proms.
Future Plans
Jade has big plans for another album with producer Mike Sabath, who said: "I've loved that song [Angel of My Dreams]. England held it down with that song. Me and Jade are locked in on the new record, which is going crazy."
Despite years in the limelight, Jade admitted she still gets nervous. Speaking to the press before the Mercury Prize Awards, she said: "I mean I was really nervous before, but I actually feel quite nice now, surrounded by friends and getting a night in, you know, seeing a good reaction to the album. Whatever happens, no, it's really good, I feel good."
From Little Mix to Solo Stardom
Jade rose to fame as part of Little Mix alongside Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards and Jesy Nelson. The group, formed on The X Factor in 2011, achieved five number one singles. After Jesy's departure, the remaining trio continued briefly before focusing on solo projects. Jade is hopeful of a return to Glastonbury.
