Deep Purple musician Ian Gillan has postponed the rest of the band's European tour after being rushed to hospital with what he described as a "very serious" medical issue.
Gillan, 81, issued a statement via Instagram this week alerting fans that he could not continue with the string of gigs planned around Europe and the UK.
'Urgent attention at the hospital'
His statement read: "Dear friends, thank you for all the good wishes and support over the last few days, it means the world.
"I had a medical problem whilst in Leipzig which required urgent attention at the hospital. I was hoping that I would get the all clear to hang on until the end of the tour, but there are very serious risks involved in me doing so."
He added: "As a result, and on the advice of my medical team and management, we have made the decision to postpone the rest of the Europe/UK tour until further notice.
"I'm very sorry about any inconvenience this may cause, but it's in the best interest all around. Thank you for your understanding. Cheers, IG."
The band previously issued a statement cancelling their Leipzig gig as Gillan suffered a "medical emergency" that resulted in him being hospitalised.
Fans show support
Fans rushed to show their support, with one writing: "Dear Ian, health is more important than any concert in the world, I wish you all the best, please take good care."
Someone else said: "Hope you recover soon, Ian! We're sending you lots of strength and love from Argentina."
"I applaud you and your team for prioritising your health!! So many singers don't get the support they need. Thank you everyone for supporting Ian!!" a third fan commented.
The news comes after Deep Purple frontman Glenn Hughes announced his retirement from touring after he underwent an aortic valve replacement surgery.
He said in August 2026: "This past year, I've had some health issues.
"The results from numerous MRIs, CT scans and an echocardiogram have alerted my medical team that I need another open-heart surgery. I really have no option and no choice, as health is my number one priority.
"Grateful to have been chosen with a life full of the gift of music… Thank you for walking beside me."
