Shoppers in Newcastle city centre were treated to an unexpected performance on Thursday afternoon as Edinburgh funk-rock trio High Fade busked at Monument, drawing a sizeable crowd. The band, who boast a following of 475,000 on Instagram, were in the city ahead of their gig at Digital on Friday.
Four-hour set at the famous landmark
The trio arrived in Newcastle on Wednesday and stopped for a meal at Lola Jeans, near Monument, before heading to the landmark to play. Their set lasted close to four hours, with more people gathering to watch and film the performance as it went on.
The band's music could be heard from a distance, even for those not in the area specifically to see them. After delivering an electric performance, they thanked everyone who turned up and urged those without tickets for their Digital gig to get them.
Fans react online
High Fade shared a photo from the busking session with their near-500,000 Instagram followers, writing: 'Absolutely locked in today in Newcastle.. we hit the Monument spot for about 4 hours and played some seriously hardcore PHONK in the streets.'
