Oasis have expressed shock and sadness after a male fan fell to his death during their concert at Wembley Stadium on Saturday night. The man, aged in his 40s, was found with injuries consistent with a fall from the upper tier of the 90,000-seat venue, which rises 50 metres above ground level.
The Metropolitan Police were called to the scene at 10.19pm, after reports of an injured person. Despite efforts from stadium medics and the London Ambulance Service, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The force has appealed for witnesses or anyone who may have captured the incident on mobile phone footage to come forward.
In a statement, Oasis said: “We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of a fan at the show last night. Oasis would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person involved.” During their Sunday night performance at the same venue, the band dedicated the track Live Forever to those unable to attend.
One fan who witnessed the aftermath described the scene as “horrific”. Writing on social media, she said she initially thought it was a coat falling from the tier above before realising it was a person. Wembley Stadium confirmed the incident and expressed condolences to the family, who are being supported by specially trained police officers.
