Former Liverpool star Luis Diaz has embarked on a surprising new venture, launching a music career just months after his high-profile transfer to Bayern Munich.
From the Pitch to the Recording Studio
The 28-year-old Colombian winger, who left Anfield in the summer of 2025, has released his debut single titled 'La Promesa', which translates to 'The Promise'. The track, released on the cusp of the new year, is a collaboration with acclaimed artists Juanda Iriarte and Nelsen, key figures in the Afro-Colombian champeta music genre.
In the song, Diaz sings emotionally about the pledge he made to his parents to buy them a house and help them leave their old neighbourhood, a direct reflection of his personal journey. The lyrics are a heartfelt expression of gratitude for his footballing career, with lines including: "Thank you, God, For giving me the blessing of playing football," and "And being able to fulfil the promise I made to my parents."
A Project Born from Passion and Gratitude
Announcing the project on Instagram as 2025 concluded, Diaz penned a sincere message to his fans. He wrote of his deep gratitude to God and his family for their unwavering support through sacrifices and difficult moments. "This song comes from the bottom of my heart, from the most sincere gratitude for what we have built together," he stated.
He further explained his motivation, saying, "Music is one of my hobbies and a way of expressing myself from the heart... This project was born out of passion, from enjoying the process and connecting with you from another place."
The accompanying music video features Diaz singing at home, interspersed with highlights of his goals for clubs including Barranquilla FC, Junior de Barranquilla, Porto, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich.
Flourishing Form in Germany
Diaz's creative pursuits come as he continues to excel on the pitch for his new club. Since his move to the Bundesliga, the forward has made a strong impact, scoring 13 goals and providing 7 assists in 22 appearances so far this season.
His successful stint at Liverpool, where he spent three-and-a-half years, saw him net 41 times and create 23 assists in 148 games. During his time on Merseyside, Diaz lifted several major trophies, including the Premier League, the FA Cup, and two League Cups.
This unexpected musical debut marks a fascinating new chapter for the athlete, allowing fans to connect with the personal story behind his professional success.
