Ex-Liverpool Star Luis Diaz Surprises With Music Debut

Former Liverpool winger Luis Diaz has launched a music career with the release of his debut single 'La Promesa' (The Promise), six months after leaving the club for Bayern Munich. The track, created alongside Colombian artists Juanda Iriarte and Nelsen, is rooted in champeta, an Afro-Colombian genre from the Caribbean coast.

The song tells the story of Diaz's vow to his parents to buy them a house and help them leave their old neighbourhood. In the lyrics, he sings: 'Thank you, God, for giving me the blessing of playing football. And being able to fulfil the promise I made to my parents. And to my whole family, amen.'

Diaz shared an emotional message on Instagram as 2025 ended, writing: 'I close the year with gratitude. To God, for guiding my every step... This song comes from the bottom of my heart, from the most sincere gratitude for what we have built together.'

The music video features Diaz performing at home, interspersed with goals he scored for Barranquilla FC, Junior de Barranquilla, Porto, Liverpool and Bayern. He explained his move into music: 'Music is one of my hobbies and a way of expressing myself from the heart... This project was born out of passion.'

Since leaving Liverpool, the 28-year-old has thrived in the Bundesliga, scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists in 22 appearances this season. During his time at Anfield, he netted 41 goals and supplied 23 assists in 148 matches, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and two League Cups.
