Dua Lipa 'Deeply Honoured' as Kosovo Grants Her Citizenship in Emotional Ceremony
Dua Lipa honoured with Kosovan citizenship

In a moving ceremony that celebrated cultural roots and global stardom, Kosovan President Vjosa Osmani awarded honorary citizenship to British-Albanian pop icon Dua Lipa. The Grammy-winning singer described the gesture as "one of the proudest moments" of her life.

A Celebration of Heritage

The 29-year-old superstar, born in London to Kosovar-Albanian parents, was visibly emotional during the presentation in Pristina. "This recognition means more to me than I can express," Lipa told assembled media. "Kosovo and Albania have always been in my heart, and to be formally welcomed this way is incredibly special."

President's Praise

President Osmani highlighted Lipa's role as a cultural ambassador, stating: "Dua has carried the Albanian spirit to global stages while never forgetting her roots. She represents the best of our diaspora - talented, hardworking and proud of her heritage."

Family Ties

The "Houdini" singer's connection to Kosovo runs deep - her father Dukagjin Lipa was born in Pristina before moving to London. The family maintained strong ties to the region, with Dua spending parts of her childhood there and launching a sunshine-themed music festival in Pristina in 2022.

Gratitude and Future Plans

Lipa, who already holds British and Albanian citizenship, said the honour would inspire her future work: "I want to keep finding ways to give back and support young people in Kosovo through education and the arts." The ceremony coincided with her father's birthday, making the occasion even more poignant for the Lipa family.
