Deep Purple's Ian Gillan Hospitalised, Shows Cancelled

Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan has been hospitalised following an undisclosed medical emergency, forcing the band to cancel two upcoming concerts in Germany. The group confirmed the news in a statement shared online, announcing that they would no longer appear at the scheduled shows.

The band had been due to perform at the QI Arena in Leipzig on October 31, followed by a gig at Hamburg's Sporthalle the following evening. However, the health scare meant both dates had to be cancelled.

Band Statement on Cancellations

In their statement, the group said: “With great disappointment, Deep Purple must announce that they are unable to perform as scheduled tonight at the QI Arena (Leipzig) and tomorrow evening at the Sporthalle (Hamburg).”

“This comes as a result of a medical emergency involving Ian Gillan, which has resulted in his current hospitalization.”

The band did not reveal further details about the nature of Ian's medical emergency, but reassured ticket holders that the shows would be rearranged. They added that “all tickets purchased will be valid for the rescheduled dates”, once a “suitable time to reschedule both these shows” has been found.

Fan Support and Band History

The announcement prompted an outpouring of support from fans, with many taking to X to send their best wishes to the singer. One wrote: “I hope he’s okay!” Another said: “Wishing Ian a speedy recovery.” A third added: “Gutting, best wishes to Ian and a speedy recovery.”

Ian has been a key figure in Deep Purple for decades, first joining the legendary rock group in 1969. Although he has taken time away from the band to focus on solo projects, he remains at the helm of its current line-up. The group currently features Ian alongside Roger Glover, Ian Paice, Simon McBride and Don Airey.

Before making his name with Deep Purple, Ian also had a brief spell as the frontman of Black Sabbath.

The singer's hospitalisation comes as a blow to fans hoping to catch the band on their latest run of performances, with supporters now waiting for news of his recovery and the rearranged German dates.
