Aerosmith Retire from Touring Over Steven Tyler's Vocal Injury

Aerosmith have announced their retirement from touring, stating that lead singer Steven Tyler's vocal cord injury will not fully recover. The band said in a statement: 'As you know, Steven's voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury. We've seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible.'

The US rock group, known for hits including I Don't Want to Miss a Thing, Dream On and Walk This Way, described the decision as 'heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary'. They had already cancelled dates on their farewell tour, Peace Out, last September after Tyler needed ongoing care for damage to his vocal cords and a fractured larynx, which was 'more serious than initially thought'. The tour was due to finish in February 2025.

Queen guitarist Sir Brian May expressed his sadness on Instagram, calling Tyler 'one of the greatest vocalists and frontmen of all time'. The Black Crowes, who were the tour's opening act, also shared their shock and respect. Aerosmith, comprising founding members Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Brad Whitford and Joey Kramer, thanked their fans, saying: 'It was 1970 when a spark of inspiration became Aerosmith... Play our music loud, now and always. Dream on. You've made our dreams come true.'
