YouTube Food Critics Visit Yorkshire Pub for World's Largest Fish and Chips
YouTubers Try World's Largest Fish and Chips at Yorkshire Pub

YouTube food reviewers Gary Hanna and Danny Malin visited a Yorkshire pub that once held the world record for the largest fish and chips portion, a 45kg dish. The duo, who run the channels Gary Eats and Danny vs Food respectively, dined at the Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton, north Yorkshire. The pub secured the record in 2011 but has since been surpassed.

Massive Portion Proves Too Much

Danny ordered the signature fish and chips, which, though far smaller than the record-breaking 45kg portion, still presented a monumental challenge. The meal included all sides and extras: curry sauce, mushy peas, tartare sauce, malt vinegar, scraps, and gravy. Even with Gary's help, the task proved too great.

Unanimous 10/10 Verdict

Despite the portion size, both food vloggers agreed the meal was a perfect 10 out of 10. Gary declared it deserved a 10-star rating, and Danny wholeheartedly agreed. Gary summed up: "That was one of the best experiences I've had in a pub, ever. This is what it's all about and has completely blown me away. Coming here, location is just incredible, the food is incredible, the cooking on the fish was incredible."

Danny added: "I'm with you, without a doubt. It's the best fish and chips I've ever had which has not been in a fish and chip shop or a fish and chip restaurant, and that is up there with some of the best I've ever had."

Praise for Quality

Gary boldly claimed the dish surpassed Heston Blumenthal's Michelin-starred fish and chips. Danny praised the succulence of the fillet and overall quality, with Gary echoing: "The batter is beautiful, but what is outstanding is the fish itself. You'd come in and share that."

Danny had one minor criticism: both the curry sauce and gravy could have been thicker, though he acknowledged this was a matter of personal taste. He concluded: "When you're in a restaurant and you have fish and chips, I always think, 'is it going to be as good as from a fish shop?' This is beyond expectations for me. With the taste of the fish, the crunchiness of the batter, the chips. You wouldn't get this at a seaside fish and chip shop."
