A new immersive space experience, developed in collaboration with the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, is set to open in Manchester this summer. 'Smithsonian Starstruck: An Immersive Experience' will allow visitors to explore the cosmos through virtual reality and 3D technology.
The attraction, which opens on 9 July at Transmission House on Tib Street in the Northern Quarter, offers a free-roam journey where guests can witness the birth and death of stars, explore distant galaxies, and come face-to-face with a black hole. The experience draws on decades of astronomical research to translate scientific data into an interactive universe.
During the one-hour VR experience, suitable for ages 10 and above, visitors will explore observatories such as the Hubble Space Telescope, the James Webb Space Telescope, and the Chandra X-ray Observatory. They will also encounter extreme exoplanets, witness the life cycle of stars, and race through the Milky Way.
Tickets are priced from £16 per person and go on sale from 10am on 16 June. A waitlist is available via Fever. The experience previously premiered in Washington D.C. and made its UK debut at the Science Museum in London.
