Capcom has confirmed that the upcoming title Resident Evil Veronica will be exclusively third-person, dashing hopes of a first-person mode. The remake of Code Veronica was announced at Summer Game Fest last week to a positive reception, but confusion arose over the perspective shown in the reveal trailer. The original 2000 game on GameCube was third-person, but the trailer initially appeared to show a first-person view through Claire Redfield's eyes as she enters her brother's apartment in Paris, before pulling back to reveal her face.
Modern Resident Evil Perspective
The first-person perspective has become a hallmark of recent mainline Resident Evil titles, including Resident Evil 7, 8, and 9, which are designed for an immersive 'up-close' camera angle—except for Leon's sections in Requiem. Despite this trend, Capcom has decided to stay true to the roots of Code Veronica by making Resident Evil Veronica a third-person-only experience. There will be no option to switch to first-person, similar to the Resident Evil 4 remake.
Release and Platforms
Resident Evil Veronica is targeting a 2027 release date. Given that only nine months passed between the reveal of Requiem and its launch in February 2026, fans may not have to wait long for this horror chapter. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
This remake marks the fourth classic Resident Evil game to be rebuilt using the RE Engine for modern platforms and audiences, following Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4. Further details about Resident Evil Veronica remain scarce, but the confirmation of its third-person perspective clarifies one major aspect of the upcoming title.
