From Amazon Driver to R&B Star: Kwn's Remarkable Comeback
Kwn: From Amazon Driver to Global R&B Star

British singer Kwn, who performs under the name K Wilson outside music, has shared her remarkable journey from being dropped by her record label to becoming a global R&B sensation. In 2024, after her debut EP Episode Wn failed to gain traction, Wilson found herself broke and working as an Amazon delivery driver to make ends meet. Her first day was soul-crushing; she ended up in tears in her van.

From Delivery Driver to Viral Hit

Wilson spent five months delivering packages, a job she describes as "not for the weak." After failed attempts to reignite industry interest, she and her manager devised a plan to sell her next single, Worst Behaviour, directly to fans for £1.99. Their target was 500 sales to generate about a thousand pounds. Within a week, they had exceeded that tenfold. The success catapulted Wilson back into record label boardrooms.

The February 2025 remix of Worst Behaviour featuring US R&B star Kehlani, along with a music video showing the pair sharing a sensual kiss, went viral with 33 million views and counting. Wilson confirmed in October that they are dating. Another EP, With All Due Respect, followed, earning award nominations and a headline tour across Europe, North America, and Australia.

Authenticity Over Streams

Wilson has been recognized by the Brits, Mobos, BET awards, and Ivor Novellos, but she values sold-out gigs more. "You can fake streams, followers and likes, but bums on seats are different," she says. "That's when you know you're doing it for real." Her fans are known for their energetic, "feral" behavior at shows.

Her music draws from sumptuous, old-school R&B, inspired by her childhood in Walthamstow, London, where her older sisters introduced her to artists like Usher, Brandy, and Boyz II Men. Wilson takes their seductive anthems and amplifies them. On her latest EP, And All Pride Aside, she sings about pleasuring her lover with tracks like 'Til U Cry and 'Til the Room Stinks.

Fearless Lyricism

"I'm never afraid of saying things, especially the explicit stuff," Wilson says with a smile. Despite the raunchy bravado, she is calm and measured in person. She describes her subject matter as "fun and kind of comical." When she asked her teenage hero Ty Dolla $ign to feature on 'Til the Room Stinks, he replied with laughing emojis and asked, "How did you think of this?" The line actually came from a fan in her TikTok comments.

Wilson writes about women within a historically heteronormative R&B style, but she doesn't label herself. "I'm making music. I don't go out and say: 'Hey, guys, I'm a lesbian!'" She believes listeners don't care. "Some people don't know how to take it on the first listen. But I don't think me being a woman writing about women makes a difference."

Deeper Meaning

Beneath the steamy hedonism, Wilson's music reveals vulnerability. The EP ends with Heaven's in Your Hands, written shortly before her grandfather's death last year. The song poured out after a week of writer's block. "After, I was driving somewhere at 1am and had it on repeat. I cried the whole journey. I needed the release."

An older track, Lord I've Tried, was born from the difficult period in 2024. At a gig in Orlando, Florida, a fan handed out signs reading "The world is so much better with you in it" for the audience to hold up during the song. Wilson broke down again, but this time in the right place. "It reminded me why I do this," she says. "There's a reason God has put me in this position. I want my music to make people feel something – and for them to remember I'm human. This is my first time doing life, same as anybody else."

And All Pride Aside is released on 26 June on RCA.
