Lincolnshire Police have arrested a woman in her 30s following an alleged non-sexual assault on a child at Fun Farm Nursery in North Hykeham, Lincolnshire. The incident was reported on Tuesday, June 23, prompting an investigation that led to the suspension of the nursery's registration by Ofsted for a six-week period.
Police Investigation and Arrest
The woman remains in police custody as enquiries continue. In a statement, Lincolnshire Police addressed online speculation: "We are aware of speculation circulating online suggesting this incident involved a sexual assault. At this stage of our enquiries, there is no information to indicate that a sexual assault has taken place." The force emphasised that speculation could harm the investigation and urged the public to avoid spreading unverified claims.
Police are working alongside Lincolnshire County Council's Local Authority Designated Officer and Ofsted as part of the probe.
Ofsted Suspension and Nursery Closure
An Ofsted spokesperson confirmed that the nursery's registration was suspended because the organisation has "reasonable belief that children may be at risk of harm." The suspension began on Wednesday, June 24, and will last until Tuesday, August 4.
Parents were informed via WhatsApp and email on June 24 that the nursery had to close due to an alleged safeguarding violation. The nursery's message stated: "We need to inform all our parents/carers that OFSTED have suspended our registration immediately. This is due to an isolated incident that they want to investigate further. Unfortunately we can not elaborate further on the incident."
According to the nursery, the alleged breach involved one staff member and one child. The nursery expressed that the incident was "completely out of our control" and noted that the local authority would contact families to offer childcare support.
Alternative Arrangements
The nursery is exploring the possibility of providing places at its city nursery site during the suspension. However, the Fun Farm Play Area will continue to operate as usual, unaffected by the investigation.
