Fortnite servers are currently offline as Epic Games rolls out update 29.40, the final major update of the current season. Initially expected to last until 11am BST, the downtime has been extended by an hour, meaning players may not be able to log in until around 2pm BST. The outage affects all Fortnite modes, including Battle Royale, LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, Fortnite Festival, and Creative.
Update 29.40, dubbed the Star Wars update, went live on May 3 across PS5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Android, and PC. Matchmaking was disabled at 8.30am BST, with full server downtime beginning at 9am BST. Epic Games announced the news via X (formerly Twitter), stating: 'Prepare to go back to a galaxy far, far away... Star Wars is entering the Fortnite universe soon! Downtime begins at 4 AM ET with matchmaking ending shortly beforehand.'
The update introduces a range of Star Wars-themed content, including new skins such as Dagobah Luke, Lando Calrissian, Chewbacca, and an AWR Trooper. Players can also expect new items, songs, and bundles across various game modes. A Rocket Racing bundle is available for 2,800 V-Bucks, alongside Festival bundles.
As the final major update of the season, the download may also contain files for the end-of-season event. Players are advised to check the official Fortnite status page for the latest updates on server availability.
