Fans are calling the Apple TV+ comedy series Trying the "best British sitcom since Only Fools and Horses," with many binge-watching all four seasons in just a few hours. The show returns for its fifth season on Wednesday, July 8, with new episodes releasing weekly until August 26.
What Is Trying About?
Starring real-life partners Rafe Spall and Esther Smith, Trying follows Camden-based couple Jason and Nikki as they navigate parenthood with their adopted teenagers Princess (Scarlett Rayner) and Tyler (Cooper Turner). In the upcoming season, their comfortable domestic life is disrupted when Kat (Charlotte Riley), the children's biological mother, reappears wanting to bond with Princess, causing unexpected turmoil.
The teaser released this week shows Nikki feeling marginalized as Kat enters the family, while Jason struggles with his studies to become a social worker. Guest star Celia Imrie (Celebrity Traitors) plays a troubled resident Jason supports during his placement, and Nikki becomes smitten with a new colleague played by Colin Morgan (Belfast).
Cast and Crew
The returning ensemble includes Darren Boyd (The Outlaws), Siân Brooke (Blue Lights), Phil Davis (Slow Horses), and BAFTA Award winner Gbemisola Ikumelo (Black Ops). The series is created and written by Andy Wolton.
