The long-awaited Bluey Movie is set to hit UK cinemas on August 6, 2027, but not all fans are happy. The film, a joint venture between Ludo Studio, BBC Studios, and Disney, has drawn criticism for switching from the TV show's traditional 2D animation to 3D computer-generated animation.
Fans React to the Animation Change
The first teaser trailer and official poster debuted at Disney's D23 Expo before being shared online. The Heeler family – Bluey, Bingo, Chilli, and Bandit – are at the center of the story, which unfolds over a single day. A surprise twist throws their lives into chaos, sending them on an adventure full of mayhem and excitement.
In the preview footage, Bluey and Bingo play an energetic round of "Keepy Uppy," but devoted viewers immediately noticed the 3D style. Many have expressed disappointment, with some claiming the production has 'ruined' Bluey and others pledging to avoid the film.
Viewers Threaten Boycott
Following the poster release, one person fumed: "You had a 2D animated feature that could have shattered every box-office record. Instead, you reduced it to the level of all the run-of-the-mill productions that merely try to hook children's attention with bright colours and rapid-fire cuts."
Another added: "Not going to lie - the animation puts me off instantly, Bluey is perfect as it is, why change it?" A third viewer stated: "Boo! Change it back to 2D; it is one the of main reasons we all love it! My kids said,'What's wrong with Bluey?' We were so excited and now I won't even bother taking my kids to this. We are looking for nostalgia and that beautiful sense play that Bluey is famous for. The 3D animation completely goes against what Bluey stands for."
Mixed Reactions Despite Criticism
A fourth person questioned: "Even my 5-year-old hates the new animation style. The reason you are making a movie is because everyone loves the show. Why would you change it?" One viewer suggested producers have "broken many hearts" with the film, while another urged: "You still have time to fix this mess."
Despite the backlash, many Bluey enthusiasts remain eager to see the film. One supporter declared: "So excited and happy," while another confirmed they 'were sat'. BBC Studios and Disney Studios have been approached for comment.
