The top Indian restaurants and takeaways in Wales have been recognised at the 2026 Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards (ARTA), with venues in both south and north Wales picking up titles. The Grand Sultan, located on the Lakeside Golf Course in Margam, Port Talbot, was named South Wales Restaurant of the Year, while Saffron Kitchen in Cwmbran took the South Wales Takeaway of the Year award.
North Wales winners also celebrated
In north Wales, Jalsa in Conwy was crowned Takeaway of the Year, and Ijazz Indian Cuisine in Wrexham earned the Restaurant of the Year title. The awards, often dubbed the "Curry Oscars", were announced at a Grand Finale ceremony this week and are voted for by regulars and fans of the restaurants.
The ARTA awards are recognised as the UK's leading celebration of Asian culinary excellence, bringing together restaurateurs, chefs and industry professionals from across the country.

Industry pressures acknowledged
Mohammed Munim, Founder and CEO of ARTA, said at the awards: "Heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and finalists of ARTA 2026. Their dedication, creativity and commitment to excellence continue to raise standards across the UK's Asian restaurant and takeaway sector.
"This industry represents far more than food. It is an integral part of multicultural Britain, supporting communities, creating employment and bringing extraordinary culinary experiences to diners across the country.
"We gather at an important time for hospitality. Despite continued customer demand, restaurants across the UK face significant pressures from rising employment costs, food prices, energy bills and other operating costs. Yet independent businesses continue to invest in quality, their teams and the customer experience. That resilience, creativity and determination deserve to be recognised and celebrated.
"I would also like to sincerely thank our distinguished guests, partners and supporters for joining us in recognising this remarkable community. Tonight, we celebrate the restaurateurs, chefs and teams whose passion and hard work continue to shape the future of Asian hospitality in Britain."
More curry awards to come
The ARTA awards are not the only curry-focused accolades happening this autumn. The shortlist for the 16th Asian Curry Awards has also been announced, with the final taking place on November 15. These awards also see the UK's best restaurants and takeaways voted for by the public.
The Welsh shortlist for those awards includes Jashaan in Cardiff, Maahis in Wrexham, My Indian in Ammanford, Sheesh Mahal in Llanelli, Valley Spice in Corwen and Vegetarian Food Studio in Cardiff.
